Eventually, you can connect things together and start understanding everything, but the experience in the story doesn’t feel like you organically know and care about these characters and the world they are in.įor JRPGs, that can be a pretty terrible problem, and it doesn’t help that the writes themselves are pretty flat. This is clearly a dense world with all sorts of interesting potential, but Astria Ascending feels very much like the third or fourth entry in a long-running series. You are expected to guess how everyone knows and feels about each other. In addition, all eight demigods will be introduced together shortly after playing that role for almost three years. This all-new world is complete with all sorts of races, rules, and very important capitalized words you don’t know, and is hardly imposed on you with descriptive words. The world itself and the plots set within it are certainly Seem Interesting and original, the main problem with Astria Ascending is that it doesn’t provide players with a very compelling way to tell this story. ![]() Three years later, all half-gods die and are replaced by eight other races. Each represents one of the eight major races inhabiting Orcanon, and while being a demigod brings great power and prestige, it has a few pitfalls. You see, in Orcanon, the world is generally peaceful because the magical fruit called Hermeron lives in harmony, but of course things don’t always go according to plan. Some may be wary of the origins of mobile games here, but it feels like a high-quality, feature-rich JRPG, so you need to give it a fair shot.Īstria Ascending takes place on the land of Orcanon and plays as a demigod ensemble cast called “The Fated Eight”. This reworked version basically disassembles the original release and rebuilds it to be more consistent with a regular RPG. Today, the project has been revived by Super Neptunia RPG developer Artisan Studio and revisited for the latest consoles as Astria Ascending. Initially planned to arrive at the PlayStation console at the time in some way, the console project never got off to a good start and was subsequently canceled. Zodiac: Orcanon OdysseyProvides a reasonably high quality classic JRPG experience. ![]() Very few bosses are weak to physical, but if they are, I still keep him benched because Alek and Kress take care of that better than he does.In late 2015, a new game appeared on iOS. He was useful for like, one hunt, where his change weakness abilities actually worked and were needed since that hunt resisted everything. Dark Knight would have been a tiny bit better)… he’s just kinda sitting there. Ulan will just be tanking and buffing the party.Īnd Arpajo (Hunter/Shaman - yes, I messed this up too. If they’re weak to light, though, I change Dagmar and Kaydin to Kress and Alassia (Chronomancer/Alchemist - should’ve made her a white mage sub lol) so that way Eko can focus on offense, while Alassia takes care of the party. Dagmar and Kaydin are interchangeable in this sense, so if one of them can exploit a weakness, the other gets swapped with Kress (Dark Knight/Warrior) to assist them in FP generation. ![]() When I’m going through dungeons, I’ll switch one of the latter three out if their main form of damage gets mostly resisted or worse, and replace them with Alek (Warrior/Assassin).įor bosses, it’s a bit the same but also different once I find the weakness for a boss, I’ll keep the person that can exploit it, and swap people in depending on that. I usually have the default four: Ulan (Guardian/Harnesser), Eko (White Mage/Wushu - I know, I kinda messed this up lol), Dagmar (Black Mage/Shaman) and Kaydin (Assassin/Alchemist). ![]()
